Some of you know Bernie as the Maintenance 101/201 instructor, who drives 4 hours to Surrey, because of his love of teaching.  Others know him for his countless hours (and years) organizing and hosting Balding For Dollars.

We know Bernie as a straight to the point, no BS instructor with colourful language who loves helping his students and friends.  We’ve seen Bernie work extra hours at the end of class to ensure the student(s) complete their maintenance task safely.

“There is just something so wrong with children getting cancer. So unfair. I have a unique opportunity to help out. So I do. I’ve been asked a lot of times why I do this, and I answer, ‘why not?’.” – Bernie Ryan

We’re honoured to congratulate Bernie as the recipient of AFP Vancouver‘s Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser award. This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding philanthropy and leadership to improve their communities. For 17 years, Bernie has dedicated his time and energy to fundraising for causes dear to him, inspiring his friends along the way. He has raised nearly $200,000 for Balding for Dollars and $45,000 for Kelowna General Hospital Foundation to enhance the quality of care provided to patients at both hospitals.

Bernie was nominated by BC Children’s Hospital and Kelowna General Hospital, and was presented with the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award on Nov 16, 2017.
